The Bela emergency protection project was implemented to reduce the risk of torrential floods and landslides and to improve the safety of the Koroška Bela settlement.
The project included the construction of the Medič and Kres evacuation roads, a reinforced concrete debris barrier, eight flexible debris flow barriers in the Čikla and Urbas torrential valleys, and an access road for the maintenance of the protection structures.
Construction was carried out in demanding terrain with limited accessibility, requiring the construction methodology to be adapted to the site conditions. Rope access specialists participated in selected operations, while construction materials and equipment were transported to inaccessible locations by helicopter. One of the main technical challenges was the installation of 6 to 8 m long anchors into the sides of the torrential stream channels.
Our role on the project included construction supervision, monitoring the quality of the works, compliance with the design documentation, and the overall progress of construction.
